When Bagoas is very young, his father is murdered and he is sold as a slave to King Darius of Persia. My portrait of Bagoas, the devoted Persian lover of Alexander the Great, as I recently read in the historical fiction novel, The Persian Boy, by Mary Renault.
In The Persian Boy, Renault’s use of Bagoas is the classic POV approach for historical fiction. He makes an even briefer appearance in Les Conquêtes d'Alexandre by Roger Peyrefitte.

Bagoas was a eunuch who was originally sold to King Darius as a courtesan, but became Alexander's servant, lover, and devotee after Darius's death. He reappears in a smaller but still significant role in the sequel Funeral Games. Renault’s fictional Bagoas took on a life of his own, quite apart from historical record.
