The story is set in 1909 during Japan’s Meiji time. The genius poet Ishikawa Takuboku, who’s struggling financially, starts a detective business out of his lodging in response to a certain murder case. Something I picked up on in Woodpecker Detective’s Office episode two is the focus on smoking. The novel is set in the Meiji era, and follows fictionalized versions of the poet Takuboku Ishikawa and the linguist Kyōsuke Kindaichi. I am not generally one for detective-themed anime series, (especially when they seem to be loosely based on Sherlock Holmes — it’s been done to death people, move on!)..
