Twenty years ago..Fact: 100,000 people were wiped out in Minamata, Japan. I think Frankenheimer knew the limitations of his monster, so in the second half of the film he tries to make up for it by keeping the action coming fast and furious. Helpful. Prophecy does sustain the mood for a little while longer when the sun comes up and a serene sonata soundtracks us through as we view the carnage left by whatever attacked and killed the men. The less said about that creature at the shock ending,the better. A log company's waste mutates the environment, creating a giant killer bear-monster. After that, well, the film pretty much drops trou' and urinates all over itself for the rest of its running time. One person found this helpful. The prophecy of Daniel 2 alone shows we are in the 'time of the end', and all the other evidence proves we are in the very end times. The 1970s was a great time for horror films and there was the evil boogie man that still exists today becoming a factor in the storylines.
