In 2019, Icelandic explorer Fiann Paul captained the first human-powered transit (by rowing) across the Drake Passage (The Impossible Row) and, in doing so, he completed the row on his fifth ocean, and became the first person to achieve the Ocean Explorers Grand Slam. Traditionally the “True Explorers Grand Slam” meant climbing the 7 summits, reaching both North and South Poles but also summiting all 14 peaks above 8,000 metres. Park Young-Seok (South Korea) reached the North Pole on foot on 30 April 2005, thereby becoming the first person to achieving the explorers' grand slam.

A Portland man has begun his adventure of traveling to the North and South poles and climbing the tallest mountain on each of Earth's seven continents. This involves climbing the highest peaks on all seven continents (the 'seven summits'), the 14 peaks over 8,000 m (26,246 ft), and reaching the North and South poles on foot. On Sept. 24, 2019, the team gathered again to work with the .416 Barrett for a four-mile shot. Masha Gordon, a mum-of-two with a successful career under her belt, took on this challenge and reached her goal of setting a record by becoming the fastest woman to complete the Grand Slam.
