Tough Task Due to the archaic vocabulary and complex grammar rules, the Icelandic language leaves English speakers attempting to learn the Nordic dialect scratching their heads. Foreigners often complain over or admire the Icelandic language and most people agree that it’s a tough language to learn. For first time visitors, some of the Icelandic place names – as well as people’s names - can be real tongue twisters. This way you learn a few new words at once, and then you keep learning them over and over again in a different order to ensure you know them before moving you through to the next round. In Icelandic’s case, taking that first crack at the grammar is daunting. I’m terrible at language but I have to give it a go. I’ve been learning Icelandic for a week.
