Pierre Bourdieu (1930 – 2002) was a French sociologist and public intellectual who was primarily concerned with the dynamics of power in society. In the 1970s Pierre Bourdieu, a French sociologist, developed the idea of cultural capital as a way to explain how power in society was transferred and social classes maintained. He pioneered investigative frameworks & concepts such as cultural, social & symbolic capital, & habitus, field, & symbolic violence. He published a series of notes on social capital and put the concept to work in his book "Distinction: a social critique of the judgement of taste".
